As part of our normal Trade Union activity the Union places considerable emphasis on the development of equal opportunity initiatives for all of our members. We have negotiated a range of initiatives in this connection with the employments where our members work and have supported cases under equality legislation for members.

Equal Opportunity policy and its development and implementation feature in a significant way on the Agenda of our Delegate Conference, Executive Committee meetings and at Branch level. It also features in our Education, training and development programme.

Currently, there is no data available to the Union to indicate that Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Transgender (LGBT) members are satisfied that their workplace is free from discrimination. This survey is intended to redress this and help learn what actions, if any, the Union might need to take to address any concerns these members might have.

If you are LGBT please make the time to complete this short survey. COMPLETION OF THE SURVEY WILL ONLY TAKE ABOUT TEN MINUTES OF YOUR TIME.

We hope to establish data on the workplace experiences of LGBT members and establish information on the confidence these members have in workplace\Union structures to address their concerns. This will enable the Union to develop action points for future activities on behalf of LGBT members.

This survey has been developed with the assistance of GLEN (Gay & Lesbian Equality Network). The ICTU have also assisted.

Please be assured that replies will be treated in the strictest confidence. No individual personal information will be disclosed. The results will be compiled into a report which will be published. Your information is strictly confidential and your individual responses will be kept private. You do not have to disclose your name so no one will be able to connect the information you provide with you. In addition, you have the opportunity to nominate a charity of your choice for cash prizes to a total value of €750.

All members who are LGBT are urged to help us by taking the time to complete this short survey. The more responses we have the more accurate a picture of the position at work for LGBT members will be.
